Setting Up FT8 in Station Master

Prerequisite

Station Master's FT8 system requires WSJT-X to be installed. Both the original WSJT-X and the WSJT-X Improved build are supported, version 3.1 or newer. Other JT-mode applications, such as JTDX, are not supported and should not be expected to work.

1. Configure the audio (Audio tab)

Open the Audio tab and enable the Left and Centre columns using the checkbox at the top of each one. Then set the following:

Left column input: USB Audio Codec
Centre column output: USB Audio Codec
The gain control on the Centre column sets your transmit level (ALC). Use it to adjust your transmitted audio.

2. Select your mode (FT8 tab)

In the FT8 tab, choose the FT mode you wish to operate (FT8, FT4 or FT2) and the rig mode you want to use (USB, LSB, and so on). Station Master will automatically tune the radio to the correct frequency for the selected mode, and decoding of incoming signals will begin.

3. Start operating

To begin a contact, either double-click the station you wish to work, or enable the autopilot controls at the bottom of the tab.

Waterfall scope

While FT8 is active, the Waterfall scope displays the same style of view you would normally see in WSJT-X. You can click anywhere on the scope to set your transmit frequency, and click an overlaid callsign to start working that station.

If you are already familiar with FT8 applications, the remaining controls will be self-explanatory.
