During April 2026, special event callsign VX9P is on the air to commemorate the 75th Anniversary of the Battle of Kapyong and to honour the extraordinary heroism of the 2nd Battalion of the Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry (2 PPCLI). Throughout the month, I will be operating portable from various military-significant locations across the province of New Brunswick, Canada, paying tribute to this defining moment in Canadian military history. The Battle of Kapyong: A Stand for the Ages In April 1951, during the Korean War, Canadian soldiers found themselves in a desperate fight that would become one of the most famous and significant actions in the history of the Canadian Army. Holding the Line: Roughly 700 soldiers from 2 PPCLI successfully defended Hill 677 against an overwhelming force of an estimated 5,000 to 20,000 Chinese troops. Their steadfast defence prevented a breakthrough that could have threatened the South Korean capital of Seoul.
